Donald Trump said he is willing to accept the 2026 US midterm election results and work with Democrats, after the party secured control of the Senate and moved closer to a House majority.

The shift could limit the president’s legislative agenda in the final two years of his term, while giving Democrats greater authority to conduct congressional investigations and scrutinise the administration. Democrats reportedly reached the 51 Senate seats needed for control, with House results still being finalised.

“I am absolutely willing to accept those results,” Trump said, adding, “We’ll work with the Democrats… We’ll probably work something out.” He had earlier blamed Republican losses on his absence from the ballot, despite campaigning extensively for party candidates.
